Hey.. this story sounds so familiar. In my case all i had was to value add to friends business and I get to stay there for free without paying a single electricity bill.

Well that’s how I got started.

Ethan, Sorry it turned you off. Although I’m not sorry for writing it with the included tone. The overwhelming bulk of our writing is on very upbeat topics, and this is a rare, but important exception.

Marie-Pier I think a lot of people think app development has a finish line. We’ve been forced to learn that app development has a million little finish lines. All of them are important. Let us know when your app is done! I’d love to try it out.

Thank you so much for this post. It’s really something I wanted to hear right now.

My partner and I have been working on a project for 18 months now. We’re working like crazy and some “not so good” decisions we made at the beginning made us postpone the launch… Whatever.

We’re poor working slaves. I can’t talk to friends and family about what we’re going through because they all say: “Quit” or “Find a job”.

What I really want is somebody that would push us even more and be positive. Yes, starting a business is hard and it’s also awesome. I just can’t accept someone saying me to give up after all the sacrifices I made (find it insulting).

There’s so much to say… Again, thank you.

I like it. More people need to hear this.

I’m starting a small business myself and it’s like you say – we’re exhausted, but happy.

I do wholeheartedly agree with JD, though. Reading your post, that really turned me off. Not professional. I know, of course it’s hard to edit yourself when you’re passionate. But after reading your post I don’t see you as someone who’s afraid of a little hardship.

I agree with the sentiment, but there are ways to say the same thing with the same passion but professionally instead of sounding like a college sophomore. “F. U.” ... really? That really drives home the point? Or does it just make you sound immature?

Think about it, don’t just respond to my comment with a knee-jerk “F. U.” or something. Think about how you want to portray yourself to your prospective clients, of which I am one.

Good points as always Stowe. You can pick apart the points I raised, but I still think fundamentally there is something wrong with the attitude behind most funded startups. Something about a cart and horse I think…
